1st Session of the UNGEGN in New York 29th April to 3rd May 2019

1st Session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names will be held from 29th April to 3rd May 2019 in New York.

The Session aims to increase awareness of geographical names standardization, share the benefits that names provide in national economies and highlight its role in preserving cultural heritage.

The Session will represent national and international geographic name standardization. The Session will also promote the international dissemination of information on national standardized geographic names and the adoption of unique Romanization systems for the conversion of any non-Roman script into the Roman alphabet.


A short side meeting of the East Central and South-East Europe Division will be held on 1 May, 2019. At the meeting the national reports of Member States on activities in the area ofstandardization of geographical names will be presented.
